Transforming The World For Jesus Christ…

One Person At A Time

The CCUMC Missions Team, having taken a brief reprieve from regular meetings and the pursuit of missions work, has relaunched.  The team has been meeting to firm up a mission/vision statement and to clarify the work that they seek to do.

Under the leadership of Mark Cavanaugh and Cathy Cronk, the team has agreed to meet twice a month – the first Tuesday of each month and one Saturday each month to help keep everyone on the team on the same page and working together as a team.  While it is helpful to make both meetings, it is not a requirement to make both each month.

The general goal of the Missions team is to provide EVERYONE at Christ Community with the opportunity to serve Jesus Christ through missions, regardless of their spiritual gifts, abilities, passion, or experience through local, county, state, U.S. and world-wide missions connections.  We will be partnering with both United Methodist and other missions organizations to find ways to connect with missionaries and missions around the globe and across the street.

While doing this, we seek to be balanced and show, as Pastor BJ mentioned in a recent sermon, to utilize the same sides of the missions coin.  That is to say, we want to pursue the social gospel – helping the least, the lost, the lonely, the oppressed, etc., in the name, the power and through the love of Jesus Christ, while not being shy about why we do what we do, or in whose name we are doing it.

Our desire is to find ways that truly matter to the least, the lost and the lonely and to invest our time, energy and gifts in those areas.  Individually we can impact a little.  Together, we can impact a lot.  Think of what a herd of energized Tasmanian, er, Christians can do in the world!

This goal is a large one, and the Missions Team will need all the help it can get.  To find out more about what is going on, or to join the team, contact Mark Cavanaugh or Cathy Cronk.
